When citing a publication with several authors ranging from three to five, it is necessary to indicate all surnames in the first in-text citation. The following citations should contain the first writer’s surname which is followed by et al.

If the source has six or more authors, it is required to indicate the surname of the first author followed by et al. in all citations.

Authors’ Names

Authors’ names are given in a reverse manner. Provide the first and middle name initials and end the entry with a period, i.e. Last name, O.P.

Two or more Authors

When two or more academicians work on the study, they have to be indicated in the order they are mentioned in the very study.

Publication Data

The publishing date follows the author’s name. For the newspapers, it is necessary to state the full date, for magazine articles – month and year, for journals and other resources – a year. If the date is unknown, type n.d. meaning “no date.”

The 1st word of both title and subtitle has to be capitalized. The 1st letter capitalization is also applied to the names of places, people, and other proper nouns.
In the citation, book and report titles have to be arranged in italics. On the contrary, no italics are used when it goes about chapters and articles in APA.

The first letter of each word in titles of magazines, newspapers, and other periodicals is capitalized. The whole title is italicized.
Pay attention that in APA, titles are neither underlined nor put in quotation marks. They may/may not be italicized. To know whether to put italics or not follow this rule: if the resource stands alone – italicize the title, if the resource is a part of a large project – do not use italics.

For instance, the titles of TV shows, books, etc., are italicized since they are independent, while those of chapters, songs, articles, etc. are not italicized, as they are just small sections of large works.

Publication Details

When citing reports and books, mention the location, i.e. city and state (country). State names are not typed fully. Instead, an abbreviation including two letters is used. The names of places outside the USA should be typed fully. Once a location is provided, put a colon and enter the publisher the name of which can be presented briefly. However, if the words “Press” or “Book” are the part of the name, mention them in citations. Such terms as Co., Inc., etc. can be omitted.

When dealing with newspapers, journals, and other periodical publications, the issue and volume number are to be included after the title. The italicized volume number goes first, and is followed by that of an issue which is put in parentheses (no italics).

In case a university or college is the publisher, and the name of location is a part of school data, information about the publisher is excluded from the citation. Once the data about place and publisher is provided, end a citation with a period.

Electronic Sources

When citing webpages, DOI and URL are presented at the citation end. In APA, DOI is preferable to URL. If DOI is unavailable, provide the URL.

If URL is very long, break it before the following punctuation mark.
No period is placed at the end of a citation.
Retrieval dates as well as headings of databases are not included in the citation.
