The Divinity and the Humanity of Jesus
Buy custom The Divinity and the Humanity of Jesus essay
The contradictions around the person of Christ have been a subject of debate throughout the history. One doctrine of the person of Jesus Christ is focused on his identity and affirms both the deity and the humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ. In contrast, another studies and doctrines present the view that Jesus Christ had and has only one nature. Yet, the question if He was only a gifted teacher, good man, and miracle-worker or the very God incarnate is very complicated to answer.
Jesus has two distinct natures: divine and human. This means that Jesus is the only Person who is both God and man.
If to consider divine nature of Jesus, there are some distinct features that prove His deity. Matt Slick in his work indicates such attributes as healing of diseases, being worshiped, the title of the Son of God, and sinless. His actions, which also prove His deity, are mentioned too. Additionally, Jesus has always existed as God. Jesus existed even before He was conceived in Mary (Keating, 2002). Jesus became a human being in order to get closer to people, so that He could die in order to pay the penalty for their sins. That is why the human nature is like an addition to the divine nature.
Talking about the human nature of Jesus, it is obvious that He had all the physical attributes of a human being. He was born of a woman, had a human body, grew up, had emotions and displayed them. He was a complete human. At the same time, He was fully deity.

There is a term used to describe how God the Son, Jesus Christ, took on a human nature; yet, fully remained God at the same time (“What is”). It is called the hypostatic union. The doctrine of the hypostatic union claims that both natures of Jesus are not mixed, nor are they combined into a God-man nature. Yet, they are inseparable and act as a unit in a person of Jesus.
To sum everything up, it is difficult for the human mind to comprehend how two natures can appear in one person as is it presented in the Bible. The hypostatic union doctrine helps to realize that Jesus is one Person, which is both fully human and fully divine. However, He is not a mixture of these natures. Human and divine natures of Jesus are always in perfect harmony because His divine will always aligns itself with His human will.
