The chief producer of the film is Ryder Winona, who acted as Kaysen. Other characters include Vanessa Redgrave, Angelina Jolie, who acts as Lisa, Whoopi Goldberg and Brittany Murphy. The movie is performed mainly in a medical organization setting.
The film represents mentally ill people. The eighteen-year-old Kaysen unintentionally finds herself in the hospital referred to as Claymoore. She takes aspirin overdose. She represents mentally ill person because it was not her intention to be in the scenario of medication. She takes aspirin overdose meaning that she was not in a position to judge the right dose or seek for some advice from a medical practitioner. She claimed that attempted to terminate what she called shit. Kaysen was trying to commit suicide and denied the act of murder when confronted. The unwitting harm that she wanted to execute displays the inadvertent actions mentally challenged persons go through in their lives. Kaysen accompanied by Lisa started causing unnecessary trouble in the hospital. The results of the diagnosis indicated that Kaysen had the disorder of borderline personality, which is common in people with mental disability. The film represents mentally ill people in relation to the disorder shown by the patient Kaysen. The verbal attack that is commonly found in crazy people was revealed through Kaysen. The moment she was thrown into a cold bath, the doctor by the name Valerie deters her attack verbally through counterattacking before she was condemned.
Lisa is one of the vibrant characters; she is also presented as a mentally ill person. The moment she found that, Kaysen had taken the place of her friend. Before Lisa realized that her friend had passed on, she become quite rude as a barmy person. She started yelling madly. Without a directive from the doctor, she decided to stop taking medication and influenced her friend not to take the prescription. Crazy people do not follow directions and directives or make a consultation and express their feelings. Through Lisa, the film represents the mentally ill individuals in the sense, that without following the right protocol of the medical organization Lisa went out of the hospital. Without seeking permission together with her friend Kaysen, they escaped from the sanatorium where they were alleged to receive medication. Like mentally sick people, they did not adhere to the right channels followed by people in their normal status of mind.
The instance when Lisa and Kaysen had their night at the house of Daisy, Lisa exhibited mental disorder. Without civility and courtesy with a lurid voice, she accuses Daisy of having a relationship with her father who was incestuous. Like the mentally sick persons, the girl made sensitive accusations to her friend without even considering the chivalrous act of housing them that night.
The inhuman indictment resembled the behaviors of nutty people who are sick mentally. Lisa’s overreaction in that situation with Daisy looks crazy. She was uncontrollable as her friend Kaysen attempted to make her calm down, but was not capable of convincing her. It led to Daisy commiting suicide. The individuals, who are unwell mentally, are characterized by their unnecessary overreaction conduct. When they are controlled by other people, they barely comply with the assistance from their caregivers.
In conclusion, the film symbolizes the neglected by the society people in their mentally challenged conditions. They get little attention from the people around them and hardly get close attention even in terms of their medication. Their progress and recovery of their behavior is poorly monitored thus leading to their poor health.
